Gut Health: a Brief Introduction to the Microbiome
UU church, Belfast. FREE.
Call the Belfast Co-op to register for this free talk : 338-2532
Did you know that inside all of us lives trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms, collectively called the microbiota? While they live in many places of the body, most of them live in our gut, where they have profound effects on health. The microbiota can affect our risk for obesity, diabetes, and evidence continues to emerge revealing links to many other diseases, including neurodegenerative disease. Some studies even show they have an affect our moods!
Come learn about what the microbiome is and all that it does for our health. We will explore the evolution of the microbiome, starting at birth, and the many lifestyle and dietary factors that can lead to dysbiosis - a microbiome out of balance. Learn ways to tend this “inner garden” through the use of nourishing whole foods. We will also cover probiotics and where they fit in with a healthy gut.
Wednesday, April 4th, 5-6 p.m.
